What is Hydro licensing?
Two of Puget Sound Energy's hydroelectric projects, Baker River and Snoqualmie Falls, are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
According to the Federal Power Act of 1920, FERC has exclusive authority to license all non-federal hydroelectric projects located on navigable waterways or federal lands. New licenses are normally issued for a period of 30 to 50 years.
